Congratulations! You have just become engaged to the love of your life. You will want to take great engagement photos to commemorate such a special event in your life, aside from sharing it with your family and friends.
When then is the best time to take your engagement photos? Here’s a basic guide to this question.
Day One
On the day of your engagement, or perhaps the day after, you can take a picture of yourselves – a selfie, if you will – to commemorate the day of your actual engagement. You will even be wearing and flashing your naturally beautiful smile because you are as happy as a clam! You can also take photos of your engagement ring just to show it off.
First Month
If you want to submit a more formal engagement announcement to your local newspaper, you should schedule a shoot a month after your engagement. Be sure to check the guidelines for the specific poses allowed and the print quality requirements (i.e., size, resolution, and colors) so that your photo will actually be used.
After Setting the Wedding Date
You may also include engagement photos on your wedding website and on your save-the-date cards. Keep in mind that you send the save-the-date cards at least 6 months before your wedding date so as to give your guests sufficient time to prepare.
Three Months Before Your Wedding
Since you have already announced your engagement on the local papers, you will also want to announce your upcoming wedding. You should then plan an engagement shoot at least three months prior to your wedding date, which will provide sufficient time to see the proofs and decide on the best photos to submit to the local papers. You may want a different photo for each local paper depending on the type of paper (i.e., newspaper or magazine).
Two Months Prior to the Date
You may also want photos of your possible wedding day looks so that you have mementos of the event, not to mention a point of reference when considering your wedding day look in the future.
One Month Before the Wedding
You can also use your engagement photos on your wedding program, on favors, and on the hot air balloon, among other things. With a month before the wedding, you will still have time to choose your favorites before these are printed on the items.
No matter your chosen date for taking your engagement photos, you should have hard copies (i.e., paper and ink) printed at Walgreens Photo. You just never know when you will need them in the future, such as showing them off to your children and grandchildren.
