The regular size of a business card is 3.5 inches by 2 inches. This is what you will get when you Google for the official size. But, is there really such a thing as an official size for a calling card? Can anybody volunteer the name of the king who made a royal declaration to state this size as official?

Technically speaking a calling card can be in any size you want. There are in fact those who make statements by giving calling cards the size of a restaurant menu. This of course serves no purpose other than an initial shock. It will never land in anyone’s wallet unless we start making huge wallets as well.

On the other hand, the standard 3.5 by 2 inch credit cards may fit in a special compartment in a wallet but, has anyone considered this important fact: Traditional wallet design has made considerations on a 3.5 by 2 inch credit card but has provided a very small allowance on both sides.

The regular sized business card will soon wear down its edges after being set and pulled out from the wallet compartment several times. In addition to this, most wallets can only accommodate a few cards. When so many cards are squeezed in, every sheet is bound to be torn after a pull.

In this regard, a 3-inch by 2-inch business may well be a very good alternative.

Here are some of the reasons why this is so:

If you are going to print your own cards on an A4 sized paper, you can only fit in 9 regular sized business cards for printing.

If you are using a 2-inch by 3-inch business card, you can fit in 14 on an A4.

Set the paper at landscape and you can easily fit 12 cards; 3 slots horizontal and 4 vertical. The other two cards can be set at the right most side, set sideways.

You can set all 14 cards and have them printed in Costco Photo or CVS Photo.

Longer Life

If your card is going to be placed in a wallet along with other business cards of the regular 3.5-inch by 2-inch dimension then, you card will be protected by these longer cards.

The 3-inch by 2-inch business cards will fit in very well in wallets that have compartments set for the regular cards plus the other regular sized cards will keep it safe and cushioned.

Noticeable

Very few people have considered a smaller sized calling card and at first sight, everyone is bound to ask why.

This will give you an opportunity to explain the logic behind such a card. People may agree or disagree with your reasons but, it’s a good conversation piece and you will be a stand out.

There is nothing wrong in shortening the length of the regular business card. Most names will still fit in even on a font size of 11.

The new dimensions will help keep your card safe in anybody’s wallet unless it becomes a new standard and every wallet manufacturer reduces its business card compartment.
