The Digital Age has put the ubiquitous printed photos to near extinction, so you have thought. With gadgets like smart phones, digital cameras and tablets all having tons of memory space to store hundreds of thousands of digital images, you believe that there’s no point at all in printing your photos. Yet you’d be surprised that many people still print their digital images up to this day when everything seems to be stored electronically. There are lots of reasons why you’d still have to print the photos you took using your newly-bought digital SLR camera, or the images you captured through your iPhone.
Durability
Printed photos are more likely to survive that electronic images especially those that are stored on your computer’s hard drive, and kept on cloud storage. You can ensure that printed photographs can last for a lifetime especially if you keep them on a photo album. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that the images stored on cloud storage will remain there forever as technological advances can make cloud computing obsolete several years from now. Meanwhile, your computer hard drive may be corrupted, or the mobile phone that you have been very fond of may get lost or stolen from you. So there’s no assurance that you can keep those memorable images you stored on these electronic devices.
There’s also a good chance that printed photos will last longer than digital files. Image files today like JPEG and GIF could become obsolete in the next decade, and become unreadable by electronic devices of the future. This cannot be said of printed photographs.
Many photography enthusiasts have this piece of advice: consider printed photographs as the best for of backup. While printed photographs will also deteriorate over time, it is highly unlikely that these things will be stolen or get corrupted especially if kept in good quality photo album.
Easy to Retrieve
There’s a reason why many seniors like your parents will never like digital images in the same way that they loved printed photos. Printed images are easy to retrieve and are readily available. You can keep them in a photo album, which can then be stored in your room. Or you can display photo frames right in your living room. Printed photographs are easier to retrieve as compared to digital images, in which you need an electronic device like a computer or tablet in order to view the pictures.
It’s Cheap
Gone are the days when printing photos could cause a dent on your budget. With the emergence of cheap yet high quality image printing services, you can print multiple photographs without worry about the outlay. It is a common practice for image printing companies like Costco Photos and Sam’s Photos to offer discounts to customers who order printouts in bulk. So the more pictures you print, the cheaper your bill becomes. And consider that small expense as a huge investment especially since it will preserve all the memories and emotions from days past.
