Taking Passport Photos of Children and Infants

Taking a trip is so involving, there is all the planning, packing, documentation and googling Walgreens passport photo prices. If you have children, you have to worry about who will take care of them, if you plan to carry them along with you, then you have to worry about their documentation. There was once a time when children could travel on their parent’s passport, but times have changed and now even infants need a valid passport to leave the country.

Anyone with very young children and infants knows how difficult it is to get them to sit for anything, leave alone a passport photograph. However, with the stringent requirements for a passport photograph, it is imperative that you get that photograph right the first time. It will take a lot of patience, but with the right preparation you can get through it almost painlessly. Follow these guidelines, and you should have a good passport photo of your 2 year old in no time.

1. Babies tend to fall asleep while being photographed. So prior to the shoot, make sure the baby has had enough sleep, so that they stay awake. You can use brightly colored objects to keep the baby attentive.
2. Even the most angelic child gets agitated after being forced to sit in one position for too long. When your child becomes agitated, or starts to cry, it is ok to take a break. Check if the baby needs to feed, or the diaper needs to be changed.
3. If the child is still too young to support his or her head, let the child lie on a white cardboard, then have the photograph taken from above.
4. Refrain from attempting to support the child with your hand, or carrying the child in your lap. No one else should appear in the child’s passport photograph.
5. Sometimes in order to calm the child down we use pacifiers or toys. However, when taken the photograph, no toys or other objects should be seen in the photograph.
6. When taking the photograph, capture the baby facing directly into the camera and with his or her mouth closed.
7. Remember to take the photograph on a white background.
8. Always check what the requirements for children are from visa, or immigration websites.
