1. Dial 877-487-2778 helpline of National Passport Information Center between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00, Mon. – Fri. and ask a staffer about status of your passport. If you call outside of this sked, you can receive automated information. The State Department advises that your first option is to call through phone if you need your passport under an emergency situation. Use the passport application status online at the State Department’s website to check latest development. Just enter your last name, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number to access the information.
2. Follow up your passport’s status by utilizing the online tool of the State Department after seven days have elapsed since you submitted the application. You can register your e-mail address by going through the State Department website Passport page. Select the Contact Us, then click the link under Check Status. But you need to provide your full surname, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number. This service regularly sends automatic e-mail updates on the status of your application.
3. Contact NPIC@state.gov and request an e-mailed progress report. You can typically expect a reply within 24 hours. Most inquiries are answered within 24 hours.

1. Check Online: You can check the status of your application at the U.S. Department of State’s website. At this website, you can check whether your application has been received and is being processed; and
2. If the passport and/or passport card has been finalized, an estimated receipt date is given by the system depending whether the passport is being delivered via Priority Mail or by overnight delivery.
